Description

each painted with a Watteauesque scene of figures in landscape, the reverse with a bouquet of flowers, enclosed by encrusted flowers and fruit, one applied with two putti, the other with a putto and a maiden holding a basket of flowers to the foot, the pierced covers each surmounted with a bouquet of flowers, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, one incised 2745, various impressed numerals

Kändler designed this model in various sizes for Frederick II of Prussia (see K. Berling, Meissen China, an illustrated story, New York, 1972, pp. 52 and 56). A pair of similar vases was sold at Sotheby's in Paris, Doha/Paris, Un Décor Princier, on 30 June 2021, lot 174 (€252,000).
