Himalayan Art Resources item no. 15008.

Acquired circa 1980.

In Newar Buddhism, Sahaja Hevajra is often depicted with multiple heads and arms, as he is seen here, each holding various implements and symbols that represent different aspects of his enlightened nature. Here, the intact upper arms hold a skull cup and curved knife. Sahaja Hevajra is associated with the Chakrasamvara Tantra, a key text in Tibetan and Newar Buddhist traditions that teaches the practice of deity yoga and the union of wisdom and compassion.
