Himalayan Art Resources item no. 15007.

Collection of Moke Mokotoff (by repute).

Spink & Son Ltd., London, 31st October 1991.

This lively wooden carving of Palden Lhamo depicts her with four arms, holding a sword (now missing), a skull cup, a khatvanga staff (also missing), and with a decapitated head. She is the primary female guardian deity in Tantric Buddhism. Her saddle is a flayed human corpse with its head intact and she rides her mule through a sea of blood, as indicated by the swirling lines carved into the wooden base.
