WILSON TENNIS BALL

Rubber, Felt

2025

Presented in this lot is the set‑point ball used to secure the 1st set of the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Final at Arthur Ashe Stadium during the tournament’s celebrated “Fan Week” on August 20, 2025.

In a championship showdown, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, entering as wildcard doubles specialists, outplayed the third-seeded singles stars Iga Świątek and Casper Ruud, prevailing with a final score of 6‑3, 5‑7, 10‑6. This ball was the clinching ball for the first set.

This historic match took place in the inaugural mixed doubles event held during Fan Week—a revamped format that compressed the field to 16 teams (eight direct entries by combined singles ranking, plus eight wildcards) and featured accelerated scoring rules: short sets to four games, no‑ad scoring, tiebreaks at four‑all, and a 10‑point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set, with the final adopting the standard six‑game structure with tiebreak at six‑all and the same 10‑point decider.

The ball was secured on-site and authenticated by a Sotheby’s representative immediately following the match.
