Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Rolex manufactured small quantities of 'special dials', which were offered to retailers without being published in the firm's master catalogue.
The manufacturing process of these natural hard stone dials is extremely difficult. As no two stones are alike, the end result is an exceptional wristwatch with essentially a unique dial.
The present example from 1990 features a black onyx dial with diamond-set hour markers, that today remains in a superb state of preservation.
