The term "Cloche" derives from French, meaning bell, serving as the muse for this distinctive Cartier design. In 1920, the first documented "cloche"-shaped piece emerged, initially as a watch-brooch. Following swiftly in 1921, a platinum and diamond "cloche"-style wristwatch made its debut. The trend gained momentum in 1922 with the introduction of the Cloche de Cartier wristwatch, made in yellow gold. Cartier continued to innovate in this style, producing several models sparingly.

In the 1990s, Cartier unveiled a limited production of this model, with this particular piece being numbered 85 out of 200. Contrasting with contemporary renditions, which often showcase exploding Roman numerals, this version features Art-Deco-inspired Arabic numerals, imparting a vintage charm to the modern aesthetic. Symmetrical along a horizontal axis, this timepiece offers effortless readability both when worn on the wrist and when positioned as a desk clock. Its versatility extends to long-distance driving, typing sessions, and any scenario where the wearer's arms are positioned directly in front of them.
