The Patek Philippe reference 5039 comes from a legendary bloodline of perpetual calendar models. It was the immediate successor to the 3940 and uses the same, famed calibre 240Q that was developed under Philippe Stern amid the quartz crisis. The 5039 shares a similar, and well balanced, dial because of that shared calibre but includes several distinct details that separate from its earlier sibling. Most notably, the 5039 features a ‘Clous de Paris’ bezel and elongated lugs. The 5039 was in production from 1997 to 2007 and was released in a run of 500 examples in yellow gold, 300 in pink gold, and 400 in white gold.
The present example features an exceedingly rare, and equally beautiful, sunburst blue dial, and is only the second known example to surface with such a dial fitted. Presented in collector grade condition with a host of accessories including its Patek Philippe winding case, leather attestation books, and instruction booklets, this is a rare opportunity to acquire an important model from an impressive lineage of Patek perpetual calendars.
