A. Lange & Söhne’s Zeitwerk collection were the first to achieve jumping numerals in both the hour and minute indicator, a feat of engineering that was long regarded as a technical challenge in mechanical watchmaking. For this reason, the Zeitwerk family is perhaps one of Lange’s most recognizable, a collection that exudes the novelty of the digital display while still maintaining the allure of traditional mechanical craftsmanship.
The Zeitwerk Decimal Strike, in addition to sharing the jumping numerals of its predecessors, also integrates a unique chiming system. Unlike most watches, the repeater chimes at a high pitch tone every ten minutes and with a lower pitch intonation to indicate every hour. Since this feature is also powered by the mainspring, the watch requires a constant force mechanism to balance the energy output and ensure consistent measurement of time, an additional feat that exemplifies the finest of mechanical watchmaking.
