In 1922, Cartier introduced the original Tank Chinoise, drawing inspiration from its resemblance to Asian architectural elements. Specifically, the horizontal brancards mirrored the silhouette of entry gates found in many Asian temples.
Between 1998 and 2008, Cartier produced the Collection Privée Cartier Paris, better known as 'CPCP'.
This exceptional production was dedicated to revisiting the iconic models of the Maison while powering them with the finest mechanisms. These pieces are today rightly recognized as some of the most collectible watches of the last 40 years.
The Tank chinoise was naturally part of that prestigious collection.
Cartier decided to produce it with a rather large case, further highlighting its captivating design. The dial is in the purest tradition with the engine-turned fleurette to its center that extends throughout the dials. It also features the traditional minute track with concentric Roman numerals for impeccable elegance. The blue-steel Breguet hands bring the final touch of sophistication. For the back of the watch, the Maison made the choice of round sapphire display to reveal the very nicely finished and decorated calibre 437.
Over 100 years after its first appearance, the Cartier Chinoise continues to captures enthusiasts and the CPCP version is certainly one of the most beautiful and collectible iterations.
