During the summer of 1992, ‘The Dream Team,’ which featured 11 future Hall of Famers, captured the Gold Medal at the Barcelona Olympics. Their spectacular play on the world stage catapulted international interest in the NBA to new heights.
Following the Olympics, people from all around the world tuned into the 1992-1993 NBA season with great interest. Michael Jordan was at the peak of his powers fresh off back-to-back NBA championships. He aimed to finish off the 3-Peat and assert himself as one of the greatest players of all time. But other superstars in the league such as Charles Barkley – who led ‘The Dream Team’ in scoring average – sought to dethrone Air Jordan.
The season culminated in a Chicago Bulls 3-Peat with Jordan and the Bulls taking down Barkley and the Phoenix Suns in a hotly contested 6-game series. Though Barkley earned his first and only league MVP honors, Jordan captured his third Finals MVP trophy.
Sotheby’s is proud to present this 1993 NBA All-Star Weekend Program signed by numerous NBA superstars including Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Isiah Thomas, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’Neal, and Dominique Wilkins.
Other signatories include Mark Price, Larry Nance, Larry Johnson, Detlef Schrempf, and Brad Daugherty.
The 1993 NBA All-Star Game took place on February 21, 1993 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Western Conference defeated the Eastern Conference 135-132 in overtime. Utah Jazz stars Karl Malone and John Stockton received joint All-Star MVP honors.
The multi-signed program is accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signatures.
