The present lot is numbered 34 in a limited-edition series produced by Jaeger-LeCoultre to celebrate the third Millennium. A beautifully constructed wooden and glass case is enhanced by inlaid marquetry panels by Philippe Monti and Jérôme Boutteçon depicting Aurore and Crépescule, Spring maidens gleaned from paintings by Alphonse Mucha. Each master craftsman has their names stamped to the underside of the wooden case. The base reveals a hidden tension locked drawer where 10 lacquered and gilt-brass cylinders can be fitted. Each cylinder contains a sheet of parchment paper so that the owner may record major events through the millennium.

The clock within is an exceptional feat of horology, where Jaeger-LeCoultre has enhanced the classic Atmos model with a 1000-year calendar. Marketed at the time as a 1000-year journey, the clock would be the “receptable of 1000 years of important moments, traditions, secrets and joys, which undoubtedly would flow through the tide of countless generations.”

We are pleased to offer this fine timepiece complete with millennial cylinders, writing accessories, and an impressive and large leather-bound presentation trunk with gilt-brass hardware and 16 individual compartments. The approximate size of the trunk is 80 cm length x 63.5 cm width x 33 cm height, weighing approximately 50 lbs.
