This highly complicated Patek Philippe pocket watch made at the end of the 19th century is truly a piece of art and history. Even by today's standards, the combination of a minute repeater, perpetual calendar and chronograph function is extremely difficult to achieve and therefore such pieces are very rare. To find a well-preserved example from more than 120 years ago is quite remarkable. This particular piece was retailed by the Chicago-based company Spaulding & Co., which also had offices in Paris at the time and therefore its signature adorns the cuvette and movement of the watch. In 1929, Spaulding & Co. merged with Black, Starr & Frost and with Gorham and remains in business today under the name Black, Starr & Frost.
The present lot is offered in attractive condition, having received a service in 2007, and comes with presentation case and Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming its production in 1896.
