3 volumes in one, oblong 4to (c.24.5 x 32.5cm), manuscript label to cover ("Joh. Seb. Bach Orgelfugen und 4händige Choräle (Lichtenstein) Ernst Rudorff. 1894"), nineteenth-century paper-covered boards, binding somewhat worn; bound together with a manuscript of the Fugue in G minor for organ, BWV 578, and the Fantasia in G minor for organ, BWV 542/1, notated in brown ink on up to three three-stave systems per page, faded pencil sketches at the end, 9 pages, oblong 4to, 10-stave paper, early 19th-century, tear to one leaf


Marie Lichtenstein was the god-daughter of Carl Maria von Weber, and the godmother of Ernst Rudorff, who acquired this volume and others from the Lichtenstein Nachlass. The G-minor fugue BWV 578 was first published in 1821, the G-minor fantasia BWV 542/1, in 1833. From 1882, Rudorff, whose connections with Bach's music were numerous and significant, directed the piano and organ class at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik.
