Description

Giuseppe Verdi

Autograph letter signed ("GVerdi"), to Luigi Arditi, APPARENTLY UNPUBLISHED

asking him to incorporate into the Cantata two little passages ("squarci") which he is sending, and noting that he will add them himself to the autograph score and the copies in France and Italy

...Quando avvete un momento di tempo vi prego di far accomodare nella Cantata questi due piccoli squarci che vi mando...

1 page, 8vo, London, 30 May 1862, light staining, laid down with a few small tears to backing paper

Arditi conducted Verdi's Cantata (or Cantica), with text by Boito, at its premiere on 24 May at Her Majesty's Theatre. Originally composed for the opening of the London International Exhibition, it was subsequently rejected by the Royal Commissioners. The piece was later renamed Inno delle nazioni and published by Ricordi under that title.
