Description
Jacobus de Voragine
Mariale. Venice: Simon de Luere for Lazarus de Suardis, 13 November 1497
part 4 only (of 4), 4to (208 x 141mm.), 72 leaves, a-i8, double column, 52 lines plus headline, gothic type, first leaf with woodcut of a bishop teaching a group of students with books, woodcut printer's device at end, modern tan calf blind-tooled in period style, some deckle edges, occasional light staining
A compilation of 160 alphabetically arranged words relating to the characteristics and virtues of the Virgin Mary, from abstinentia to vulnerata multis gladiis. A note on the lower cover states that this volume was damaged in the Florence Floods of November 1966 and subsequently repaired.
