NIKE, NIKE AIR JORDAN SNEAKERS

Rubber, Leather, Cotton, Synthetic

Circa Early 2000s

These are the only sneakers The MeiGray Group has ever photomatched to the illustrious career of NBA legend Reggie Miller.

Sotheby’s is proud to present these sneakers signed and game worn by Reggie Miller in his penultimate matchup against Michael Jordan on January 4, 2003. Jordan’s Washington Wizards defeated Miller’s Indiana Pacers 107-104 in double overtime. Miller scored 11 points and added 2 assists. Jordan, on the other hand, dropped 41 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to win one of the final on-court duels between the two rivals and Hall of Famers.

Miller also wore these sneakers against Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers on January 6, 2003 in a 105-104 Pacers overtime victory. He scored 11 points and added 5 assists and 3 rebounds in the win.

While Michael Jordan reigned supreme in the 1990s NBA, few players challenged ‘His Airness’ more than Reggie Miller.

The two superstars faced each other 56 times during their respective careers. While Jordan’s team won 36 of those matchups, Miller is often regarded as one of MJ’s most formidable opponents.

The sneakers have been photomatched by The MeiGray Group and are accompanied by a  photomatch letter and graphic. A letter from James Spence Authentication regarding Miller’s signature is also included.

Going Deeper | Reggie Miller

Following a standout collegiate career at UCLA, Miller was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 1987 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. By his second season, he had already developed into one of the league’s most prolific outside shooters. Miller’s individual success coincided with team success as the Pacers became a perennial postseason contender. Miller led the Pacers to the playoffs in seven consecutive years between 1990-1996 and then another eight straight seasons from 1998-2005. During his career, the Pacers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2004, and reached the Finals in 2000.

Miller and Jordan famously battled in the 1998 Eastern Conference Finals. Jordan’s ‘Last Dance’ Chicago Bulls sought to win one last championship before the roster was set to be disbanded. But Miller’s Pacers appeared poised to finally break through in their 8th postseason appearance of the decade.

The series was hotly contested with both teams refusing to lose on their home floor. In Game 4, Miller drained a miraculous buzzer-beater to knot the series at two game apiece. Following a Bulls victory in Game 5, Miller and the Pacers battled to win Game 6 and became just the second team to force a Game 7 against the Bulls in their six championship runs. Jordan ultimately prevailed in a 88-83 Game 7 victory that saw the Bulls return to the Finals and the Pacers fall just short once again.

Miller’s career accolades included 5 All-Star Game appearances and 3 All-NBA selections. In 2012, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Ten years later in 2022, Miller was honored as one of the top 75 players in NBA history when he was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
