The present lot belongs to a small and rare group of jade 'human face' ornaments which have long been associated with the Neolithic Hongshan culture. See two related examples, including one also with the olive-shaped eyes and bulging lips, excavated from site in Balin Right Banner, Inner Mongolia, illustrated in Yu Jianshe, Hongshan Jades, Hohhot,2004, pp. 29, 37 & 38.

青黃玉人面飾在紅山類型文化玉器中較為少見，在遠古時代，石、玉人面造像均屬純粹的精神文化作品。紅山文化玉質人面造型雖有出土，但數量稀少，十分罕見。本作品尖下顎、雙眼呈橄欖狀凸出；上下嘴唇亦做橄欖狀凸起，内蒙古巴林右旗出土兩件玉人面，其中一例五官凸起，與本品相似，另一件耳部及眉毛刻畫方式也與本品類似，見于建設，《紅山玉器》，呼和浩特，2004年，頁29、33、37及38。
