André Aucoc came from a family of gold and silversmiths working in Paris at the turn of the twentieth century. His style was often inspired by the eighteenth century and there are a few known works combining both his stamp with the monograph of King Farouk as the present example. Similar boxes were also sold by Ahmed Naguib Bei, a fine jeweller based in Cairo and Egypt who often created commissions for the Egyptian royal family at the time. A similar example was sold in these rooms, Fine Jewels, 7 June 2017, lot 210.
