8vo (153 x 102mm.), title printed in red and black within a woodcut border, woodcut illustrations (including a double-page map of Spain), woodcut device on final verso, late eighteenth-century mottled calf, flat spine gilt with red morocco lettering-piece, blue edges, binding slightly bumped and rubbed


The woodcut illustrations are based on those in the Aldine edition of 1513. Ortica della Porta's translation was first printed in 1517; he also translated Sallust into Italian.


PROVENANCE

Bought from Umberto Saba in 1937, pencil note on inside front cover (Saba owned an antiquarian bookshop in Trieste)
