Alceste tragédie mise en musique...première édition [score], Paris: (engraved by H. de Baussen), 1708, FIRST EDITION, 3 leaves, 192 pages, folio (39.6 x 26.1cm), engraved throughout, privilege dated 1707, contemporary speckled calf, browning to some leaves, splitting at joints, corners bumped and worn


Phaëton tragédie mise en musique...seconde édition [score], Paris: [Guyenet], 1709, 2 leaves, 1-211 pages, folio (38 x 26.5cm), engraved throughout, vignettes to each act, ownership inscription to title ("P. Boisdecommeaux"), contemporary mottled calf, small tear to outer margin of pp.145/146, some light browning and damp-staining to edges, repairs to front endpapers, expert repairs to spine at head and foot 


Alceste was one of the earliest French operas, first performed at Versailles in November 1673. It was Lully's second tragédie lyrique, preceded by Cadmus et Hermione a few months before.
