The decorative motif depicting the Five Senses appears on at least eight other ivory pieces attributed to the circle of Leonhard Kern, a stone and wood sculptor from Schwäbisch Hall. The maker's mark—depicting a house—resembles the marks used by the Ehkirch family of goldsmiths, originally from Ulm.
