Description

Comte Henri-Geoffroy de Ruillé

French

1842 - 1922

Greyhound with a bulldog

signed: G de Ruille and inscribed: E.TASSEL.fondeur.

bronze, dark brown patina, with wood base

bronze: 89 by 130 by 70cm., 35 by 51¼ by 27½in.

Comte Geoffroy de Ruillé was born in Angers in 1842 and exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1884 and 1921. His works are rare as he made very limited editions of animalier bronzes. This finely modelled monumental bronze includes an elegant greyhound and a bulldog, which is a rare subject for the artist, as he focused predominantly on equestrian themes, like his contemporary, the aristocratic sculptor Comte du Passage (1838-1909).
