This home ‘City Edition’ warmup top was issued to LeBron James on December 5, 2023, during the quarterfinals of the In-Season Tournament when the Los Angeles Lakers played the Phoenix Suns.
LeBron’s incredible career has been a model of consistency at the highest level. There is no greater example of this than his streak of 20 consecutive All-Star games, which marks the first time a player has crossed this threshold in a career. He broke the record previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabar, who appeared in an incredible 19 All-Star Games.
It is difficult to grasp James’ run of All-Star Game appearances, as we have become accustomed to seeing LeBron at the top of the NBA world. In his very first All-Star Game, he was named MVP and has only continued to raise the bar year after year. He holds records in nearly every category related to the All-Star Game, including most points scored, most made field goals, most field goal attempts, most defensive rebounds, and most minutes. This record, much like the NBA points record he broke in the 2022-2023 season, is a celebration of greatness the sporting world has never seen before, and likely will never see again.
LeBron played in the first half of this game and drew the adulation of the crowd with some big highlights. In the first quarter, he slammed one home from near the free-throw line. Later on, in the best sequence of the day, he threw down a two-handed jam on a bounce alley-oop from Paul George. James finished the record-setting game with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The conversation regarding the greatest basketball player of all time may forever be up for debate, but one thing is certain, the discussion around who deserves such a coveted title will always include the name LeBron James. Now in his 22nd season in the NBA, James’ resume puts him on many NBA fans' basketball Mount Rushmore.
LeBron’s legacy began in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. As a high school phenom at St. Vincent - St. Mary, LeBron, and his teammates, dubbed the 'Fab Five,' led the school to three state championships in four years.
During his high school career, LeBron garnered national attention, appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a high school junior in 2002 with the headline 'The Chosen One.' It was during this time that he also achieved such honors such as the 2002 Gatorade Player of the Year and the McDonald’s 2003 All-American MVP.
At 18 years old, LeBron James was selected first overall in the 2003 NBA draft, directly from high school, by his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers. At 19 years old, LeBron immediately made an impact upon entering the league, becoming the first player in franchise history and the youngest player in NBA history at the time to win the Rookie of the Year award.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James is recognized as one of the greatest players in the history of professional basketball. Debuting with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was the first overall pick of the 2003 NBA draft. In his first seven seasons in the NBA, James led the Cavaliers to 50 or more wins on four separate occasions, including a franchise record 66-win season in 2008-09, collected two league MVPs, and led the Cavaliers to their first trip to the NBA Finals in 2007. However, LeBron and the Cavaliers would fail to bring a championship to Cleveland that year.
James’ move from his first NBA team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, to the Miami Heat in 2010 is considered one of the boldest free-agent decisions in sports history. After winning two NBA Championships in 2012 and 2013 for the Miami Heat, James returned to Cleveland. In 2016, he led the Cavaliers to their first NBA Championship, ending the city’s 52-year long professional sports title drought. After his 2020 Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers, he became the only player to win the NBA Finals MVP with three different teams.
At the time of cataloging, James has career averages of 27 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and 7.4 assists per game. James is a 21-time All Star, 4-time MVP, 4-time Finals MVP, 2004 Rookie of the Year, 12-time All NBA 1st team, and a member of the 75th Anniversary Team. The NBA 75th Anniversary Team was selected by a blue-ribbon panel of players, coaches, general managers, and sportswriters who voted on the 75 Greatest Players in NBA History. Only 11 active players were selected for the team, including LeBron James.
