the mosaic tiles fitted together forming a floral stem within a lobed arch, with cobalt blue, light blue, green, burgundy, orange and white glazes, mounted in metal frame for display

Similar floral cut-tile mosaic niches can be found in Lahore Fort in Pakistan, completed in 1631 (G. Degorge & Y. Porter, The Art of the Islamic tile, Flammarion, 2002, p.263) and in the mosque of Wazir Khan, also in Lahore completed three years later which has been described as ‘undoubtedly the richest Mughal monument in terms of ceramic decoration’ (ibid, pp.260-1).
