Launched at Basel in 1976, the Patek Philippe Nautilus was designed by Gérald Genta during a pivotal moment in the evolution of sports watches. Stainless steel, traditionally reserved for utilitarian timepieces, was elevated to luxury status through meticulous finishing—expert brushing, beveling, and polishing techniques typically reserved for precious metals. The Nautilus 3700, affectionately known as the ‘Jumbo’ due to its 42 mm case, draws inspiration from nautical portholes, with a uniquely complex bezel that showcases Patek Philippe’s extraordinary craftsmanship.
Despite its impressive diameter, the case maintains a remarkably slim profile of just 7.5 mm, thanks to the technically refined calibre 28-255C, sourced from Jaeger-LeCoultre. This particular example is especially notable as a 3700/1A from the earliest production series and is offered in attractive condition.
