Leaf from a vast Antiphonary

Decorated manuscript in Latin on vellum. [Spain, 16th century]

Single leaf, c.720×565mm; written in huge letters in a very stylised gothic textura script, with 5 lines of text and music with square notation on 5-line staves (c.550×480mm, rastrum c.55mm); the text is from the Temporale, with the beginning of the 18th Sunday after Pentecost; foliated ‘XCI’ in the upper margin; decorated with a very large initial in blue and red with extremely dense filigree penwork in red, blue, and mauve. A few small holes; the ink on the verso rather flaked.
