Threshing and Virgo, miniatures on a leaf from the Calendar of a Book of Hours


Illuminated manuscript in French on vellum. [France, 15th century (c.1460s–70s)]


Single leaf, c.170×110mm; ruled for 16 lines per page and written in gothic textura script IN FRENCH in gold, blue, and red inks; recto and verso each with a panel border enclosing a roundel depicting the Occupation of the Month and the Zodiac Sign for August, respectively. Somewhat worn, dirty, and cockled, but still attractive.
