Description
UTAGAWA HIROSHIGE (1797-1858)
THE FUJI RIVER IN SNOW
EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)
Woodblock print, signed Hiroshige itsu, sealed Ichiryusai, published by Sanoya Kihei (Kikakudo), circa 1842-44
Vertical oban diptych:
73.5 x 25 cm., 29 x 10 7/8 in.
An untitled vertical diptych depicting two boats silently navigating their way along the Fuji river flowing between steep, snow-covered cliffs. Considered amongst Hiroshige's masterpieces, it is thought that this design resulted from a journey he made in 1842 along the Koshukaido, travelling West from Edo.
