Head of Saint John the Baptist
lindenwood, on an iron base
height of head: 19 ⅜ in.; 24 cm.
The elongated proportions and attenuated features of the present sculpture recall the work of Bernt Notke (circa 1440 - circa 1509), who was active in and around Lübeck in the late 15th century.
