woodblock print, signed Hasui, sealed Kawase, pubilsher's circular seal to the lower right corner Watanabe (Watanabe Shozaburo), dated Showa nijuichinen saku (made in 1946)


Horizontal oban: 24.4 x 33.7 cm., 9⅝ x 13¼ in.

The scene is set in Nagano Prefecture, characterised by well-developed vegetation and towering mountain vistas. It is raining in the residential area, with the skies and clouds printed in two tones of grey. A solitary figure carrying an umbrella walks past fruiting persimmon trees.
