This clutch was designed and created by Boris Jean Lacroix for Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975). Vionnet was a French Fashion designer who trained in London then returned to Paris to open her first fashion house in 1912, for which Lacroix was appointed art director in 1924. For Vionnet, Lacroix designed furniture, logos, printed textiles, handbags and accessories until 1937. The present lot, a finely executed piece adorned with glistening glass beads, was executed during the golden age of their collaboration. A related example is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collections under inventory number 1985.364.13ab.
