First edition, singed by beat poet Gary Snyder, Kerouac's friend and inspiration for the character Japhy Ryder. The story is centered around an expedition led by Ryder to the peak of Yosemite’s Matterhorn, a trip that Snyder and Kerouac made together in the fall of 1955. Snyder was also responsible for Kerouac's introduction to Buddhism.
