The complete set of Farmers in the Four Seasons (Shiki no hyakusho)

Edo period, 18th century


the complete set of four woodblock prints, urushi-e, with hand-applied colour, from the series Farmers in the Four Seasons (Shiki no hyakusho), each unsigned, circa 1720s, framed and glazed, and comprising:


- Spring: Soaking Seeds (Haru, tane hitashi)

- Summer: Rice Planting (Natsu, ta-ue)

- Autumn (Aki, ine-kari)

- Winter (Fuyu, kome-osame)


Each vertical hosoban: each approx. 32.1 x 15.1 cm., 12⅝ x 5⅞ in.
