In the Netherlands, brothers Tim & Bart Grönefeld have been producing exceptional wristwatches with meaningful dedication to haute horology since 2009. Their flagship model is known as the 1941 – paying tribute to the year their father was born.

There are number of unique and innovative things about the Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire, starting with its elegant case. The case is constructed with removable lugs which are attached from the interior by way of hidden titanium screws. This allows the lugs to be individually changed out should the watch sustain excessive wear. We then move onto the remontoire itself, which is placed at the 9 o'clock position. Acting as a governor that rotates every 8 seconds, it regulates the speed of the winding mechanism and therefore reduces the shock sustained by the gear train at every stop of the winding mechanism. This is their own unique method of achieving a constant force escapement. The movement is also exquisitely finished with many complex techniques. The contrast between sand-blasting and raised polishing is striking, while the reliance on gold chatons around the jewels is a true callback to the golden age of watchmaking, and the unique bridge shapes recall the rooflines typical of the Dutch homes found in the Netherlands where Tim & Bart hail from.

Only 188 movements will be produced in total, encased in various case metals and dial variants. The present lot is cased in white gold with an elegant salmon dial, and bears case no.120/188. Furthermore, it is delivered complete with its Certificate of Authenticity, presentation box and other accessories.
