turned slightly to her right, her eyes with incised irises and drilled pupils, her wavy hair centrally parted, swept over the ears, and tied in a broad chignon, small curls escaping over the forehead.

then by descent to the present owner

The present head is reminiscent of portraits of Faustina Minor, wife of emperor Marcus Aurelius. See, for example, a bust in Rome (arachne.dainst.org/entity/1076121), or the head sold at Sotheby’s, London, July 6th, 2021, no. 191.
