The present work by the Austrian artist Franz West, best known for his unconventional abstracts sculptures and objects, is an exceptional example from the series of his Kodu-Chairs (Kodu-Stühle), which he produced between 1999 and 2005 in an edition of circa 500.

Most of the Kodu-Chairs were executed with colourful printed fabrics with African patterns, patterns of back rest and seat always differed, each example uniquely created in form and colour. This particular version is of great distinctive feature due to its fine silk fabric of which there was only a small number created, only about 15 are known today.
