in Pan Slavic taste, the bowl repoussé and chased with traditional scrolls and geometric ornaments, the handle set with cabochon green chalcedonies and almandine garnet and suspending a pendant with a stylised bird, the prow with an engraved inscription 'To the glory of god / and in memory of / Alma Grey / this Russian boat of plenty / is presented to River Church by her friend / Violet M.Carder or Kearnsey / Christmas 1960', struck on the base with maker's initials, 84 standard
