A JEWELLED GOLD PORTRAIT SNUFF BOX, MAKER'S MARK WG, ST PETERSBURG, 1844
of elongated cartouche form, the surfaces chased and engraved with rocaille scrolls, the lid applied with a portrait miniature on ivory painted with a lady within a rose-cut diamond-set frame, the bottom engraved with an eagle on sunburst ground, struck on the inside and the reverse of the lid with unidentified maker's mark WG in a rectangle, a bell between, 56 standard
length 9cm, 3½in.
This lot contains ivory. Due to recent changes in the laws of many countries (e.g.
