Relief with the Virgin and Child and the Infant Saint John the Baptist

alabaster, on a fabric covered wood mount

alabaster: 27 by 22cm., 10 5/8 by 8 5/8 in.

mount: 38 by 30cm., 15 by 11 3/4 in.

This finely carved relief appears to be based on a composition by Hans Rottenhammer (1564-1625), reproduced in an engraving by Aegidius Sadeler II (1568-1629).
