A daisho

The katana attributed to the Ko-Uda school, Kamakura - Nanbokucho period, 15th - 16th century

The wakizashi signed Yamato Daijo Fujiwara Masanori, late Muromachi period, 15th century

 

Katana :

Sugata [configuration]: Shinogi zukuri, ko-kissaki, shallow tori-zori

Kitae [forging pattern]:tight mokume hada

Hamon [tempering pattern]: broad notare with ashi

Boshi [tip]:slight kaeri

Nakago [tang]:ubu, one mekugi-ana

Habaki [collar]: double clad, copper gilt

In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]

Koshirae [mount]: of later date, the black lacquer saya inlaid with sprinkled aogai the fittings all decorated with samurai, the kozuka with samurai in boats, all in gold takazogen on a nanako ground, the menuki in the form of horses

Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 51 cm., 20 in.

Sugata [configuration]: shogi zukuri, ko-kissaki, shallow tori-zori.single broad hi on each side

Kitae [forging pattern]:masame hada

Hamon [tempering pattern]: suguha

Boshi [tip]: slight kaeri

Nakago [tang]: o-suriage, two mekugi-ana

Habaki [collar]: double clad, coper gilt

The katana accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Especially Worthy of Preservation], no. 1019796 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword], dated Reiwa 5 (2023).

 

The wakizashi accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Especially Worthy of Preservation], no. 1018372 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword], dated Reiwa 4 (2022).


The tsuba is illustrated back and front. 

This lot should have a warehouse symbol. The item will be sent to Sotheby's Greenford Park Fine Arts Storage Facility immediately after the sale.
