A Myochin suji-bachi [helmet with raised ridges]
Signed Myochin Nobuie and kao [cursive monogram]
Muromachi period, dated Tenbun yonen kinoto hitsuji nigatsu kichijitsu (an auspicious day in the 2nd month 1535)
the fine sixty-two plate russet iron bowl with raised ridges, terminating in a copper-gilt tehen kanamono of chrysanthemum form, russet iron peak, large turnbacks applied with tsuru kamon [crane crests], tiered slightly rounded neckguard with close-spaced lacing in purple braid, copper-gilt and lacquered maedate [forecrest] in the form of a suken with sankozuka hilt
The bowl to peak: 29 cm., 11½ in.
Accompanied by a certificate of registration Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo [Especially Important Object], no. 1445 issued by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon-kai [The Association for the Research and Preservation of Japanese Helmets and Armour], dated Reiwa 5 (2023)
