Description

Frost, Robert

Complete Poems of Robert Frost. New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1949

8vo. Publisher's green cloth, gilt; Lacking dust-jacket, neat paper label to foot of spine, some unobtrusive soiling to upper cover, corners lightly bumped.

An interesting association copy, inscribed to Carl Jung by Robert Frost and Elizabeth Shepley Sergeant

Presented to Jung on the occasion of his 80th birthday by the American writer and journalist Elizabeth Shepley Sergeant, who has also procured Frost's inscription. Sergeant studied with Jung in Zurich from 1929 to 1931, which she references in the inscription ("With warmest greetings for your 80th birthday from a New Englander who draws strength in her seventies from her treasured hours with you a quarter century ago").

At this time, Sergeant may have been working with Frost on her forthcoming Robert Frost: The Trial by Existence (1960). Above her inscription on the flyleaf, Frost has written:

To Dr C. G. Jung

for many thoughts of his

I have had borne to me
