Description
LE ROY, JACQUES
Two works in one volume, comprising:
Castella & praetoria nobilium Brabantiae. Leiden: P. vander Aa, 1699, 4 parts, text in Latin, French and Dutch, half-title, engraved additional title, dedication, 7 maps or plans (3 double-page, 4 folding) and 206 views (some double-page, full-page or folding), 4 divisional titles
L'érection de toutes les terres, seigneuries et familles titrées du Brabant. Leiden: P. vander Aa, 1699, half-title, engraved dedication, 7 engraved views, lacking map (probably never present)
2 works in one volume, folio (420 x 280mm.), contemporary half calf, brown boards, spine gilt, one plate becoming detached, minor dampstaining to first part, a few maps cropped to neatline, rubbed, sold not subject to return
A very good copy of this splendid work, first published in 1694, with the plates in strong impressions. In its descriptive and illustrative abundance Le Roy’s iconographic publication devoted to castles, manor houses, monasteries and churches of Brabant offers a vast encyclopaedic overview of contemporary sacral and secular architecture. The number of engravings in this edition seems to differ from one copy to another. The two works are often found together.
