The inscription may be translated as "On the day of Wuzi in the first month, with the moon at full phase, the king met with Xiaodingwu at Yin Zhi (a place, the name of which is subject to research, formed by combining two characters into one). Jian (ritual offcial's name) used a jade ceremonial tablet, Qi (ritual offcial's name) used a horse, and Xian (ritual offcial's name) used a jade ceremonial tablet, to praise the virtues of the Son of Heaven. Xiaodingwu commissioned this precious gui to record this event, hoping it will be passed down forever."
