A German Vari-Color Gold and Enameled Oval Snuff Box, Probably Hanau, Circa 1775


of tall oval form, engine-turned, the cover chased with a love trophy comprising a pair of birds, lute, quiver, music scores on blue enamel ground, the sides and base with further related trophies decorated with champlevé white enamel on dark blue ground, borders of running white enamel husks also on blue ground, marked inside base and cover with pseudo marks, ?FM crowned , U crowned and another apparently copying the Paris charge mark for small work 1762-68, the rim stamped no. 1649 and struck with a pseudo Louis XVI control mark
