Jaime Jaquez Jr. brought energy to Indianapolis all the way from Miami. The standout rookie from UCLA had a busy weekend, participating in the Panini Rising Stars Game the night before the Dunk Contest. Jaquez was a surprise pick for the event for many, but Heat fans know by now that the talented rookie can jump with the best of them. For his first dunk, Jaquez did a windmill over Miami Heat legend Shaquille O’Neal, who stands well over 7 feet tall. For his second dunk, Jaquez paid homage to his Mexican heritage by wearing a custom “El Heat Cultura” jersey. He then threw down a 360 off a lob he bounced to himself, bringing the ball down to his knees before jamming it home. Despite the adoration from the crowd, he did not move on to the final round.
Jaquez Jr is enjoying a successful rookie season that few predicted. He has found a perfect home in Miami alongside stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, and will look to make an impact in the second half of the season as the Heat try to make another run to the NBA Finals.
At the time of cataloging, Jaquez has averages of 12.7 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, and 2.6 assists per game.
