Giuseppe Vallardi (1784-1863), Milan (L.1223, and his numbering on the verso in red chalk:  B245);
bears an unidentified collector's mark on the recto;
sale, London, Sotheby's, 6 July 2005, lot 231 (as Matteo Rosselli),
where purchased by the present owner
The present drawing was previously attributed to Matteo Rosselli, but its stylistic similarities with a drawing in the Louvre, notably the pen and ink hatching and the rendering of the feet, provides a convincing argument for its current attribution to Benedetto Boschi, an artist in Rosselli's circle.1
