Fanny Guillon-Lafaille, Raoul Dufy, Catalogue raisonné des aquarelles, gouaches et pastels, vol. II, Paris, 1982, no. 1855, illustrated p. 291
This work is evocative of Dufy's most highly sought-after Fauve compositions. The sumptuous female nude is surrounded by colorful butterflies bursting with vivaciousness. Butterflies are art historically important motifs for their metamorphic qualities and their ephemerality which is often referred to in Dutch vanitas.
