The yet-to-be-released Lab-ID is the apex of Panerai’s technical virtuosity. Combining traditional horology with cutting edge technology, the Lab-ID renders the classic Luminor 1950 with the power of carbon. This revolutionary material is utilized in every component: the case is made of a lightweight, ultra-durable carbon fiber composite, the dial is coated with light-absorbing carbon nanotubes for superlative legibility, and the semi-skeletonized movement is crafted from self-lubricating carbon-infused ceramic and silicon, guaranteeing flawless functionality without maintenance for up to 50 years. The so called carbotech material is a Panerai invention made from a composite based on carbon fibre. Furthermore, this material is hypoallergic and does not corrode, which ensures a pristine look of the watch for generations to come.

The inky black dial is illuminated by blue Super-LumiNova indices and hands, complemented by vivid blue stitching along the black leather strap. The in-house P.3001/C caliber is a watchmaking feat, an exceptionally elegant construction requiring only four jewels, made visible by the sapphire case-back. A much-anticipated limited edition of 50 watches will be available at retail, but this prototype is the first and only model to be available before the worldwide release — an unparalleled opportunity to acquire a ground-breaking piece of horological design.
