Ding vessels of this type are distinct for their compressed globular body supported on three unusually tall and slender legs. For examples of ding from this special group see two illustrated in Zhongguo qingtongqi quanji, vol. 8, Beijing, 1995, pls. 10-11. Compare another related but larger ding in the Avery Brundage collection included in René-Yvon Lefebvre d'Argencé, Ancient Chinese Bronzes, Berkeley, 1966, pl. XXXI, and another formerly on loan to the Neiraku Museum, Nara, Japan, sold in our London rooms, 19th February 2003, Lot 322.
